Inverter Testing and Evaluation for UL 1741

Intertek offers comprehensive Inverter Testing, Evaluation and Certification services for solar and grid supported inverters to UL 1741

Inverter testing and evaluation refers to the process of analyzing the performance, reliability, and safety of an inverter device. An inverter is an electronic device that converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC), typically used in applications such as solar power systems, electric vehicles, and industrial equipment.

During testing and evaluation, various performance parameters of the inverter are measured, such as its efficiency, voltage regulation, current regulation, waveform quality, and maximum power output. In addition, safety features such as overvoltage and overcurrent protection are also evaluated.

The results of inverter testing and evaluation are used to verify that the inverter meets the necessary safety and performance requirements, and to identify any potential issues or areas for improvement. This information can be used to improve the design of the inverter, optimize its performance, and enhance its reliability and safety.

UL 1741: Inverters, Converters, Controllers and Interconnection System Equipment for Use With Distributed Energy Resources

UL 1741 is a safety standard for inverter and power converter equipment used in renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, and fuel cell systems. The standard covers requirements for inverter and converter equipment that are intended to convert DC power from a renewable energy source into AC power that can be used by the electrical grid or other electrical loads.

UL 1741 sets out a series of safety tests and performance requirements that inverters and converters must meet to ensure that they are safe and reliable for use in renewable energy systems. These tests cover a range of factors, including electrical and mechanical safety, performance and efficiency, and protection against environmental hazards such as fire, shock, and electromagnetic interference.

Compliance with UL 1741 is typically required by regulatory bodies, utilities, and other stakeholders involved in the installation and operation of renewable energy systems. By ensuring that inverters and converters meet strict safety and performance standards, UL 1741 helps to promote the safe and reliable deployment of renewable energy systems, and helps to ensure the stability and integrity of the electrical grid.

Intertek's UL 1741 Solutions:

Intertek offers Total Quality Assurance and a wide array of certification and performance testing services for all types of power conversion equipment used in power generation, including traditional standby generators with integrated inverters, PV inverters, energy storage systems, as well as wind turbine and fuel cell inverters for both off-grid and grid-connected applications. Intertek’s world-class engineering teams also have experience in the full range of related balance-of-system components including battery charge controllers, switchgear, ground fault detector interrupter (GFDI) devices, and controls.

Intertek offers certification for all interconnecting system equipment (ISE), as defined in ANSI / UL 1741 and related international standards, including traditional DC combiner boxes and special “complete package” boxes where multiple ISE is brought together in a single package.
