Intertek to Present at Assent Supply Chain Summit 2016

Ottawa, Ontario – Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, will present at the Assent Supply Chain Summit. This conference will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 17, 2016.
During the conference, Intertek expert Mr. Joe Langton, Manager, Health & Environmental Services, US Operations Market Access, Finished Goods, will be presenting on two very important topics: EU REACH SVHC’s and the European Court of Justice Impact.
REACH Regulation impacts all companies that desire their products or ‘articles’ be placed on the EU market. They are required to communicate to the customer/end user if these products or ‘articles’ contain any of the Substance of Very High Concern (SVHCs) (>160 substances), which are contained in the REACH Directive, above 0.1% of the total weight of the article. Currently, the SVHC list is being updated approximately every six months, and manufacturers are challenged to generate the required information.
On a related topic, the EU Court of Justice passed a ruling on the 10th September 2015, in regard to the interpretation of the requirement to notify the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) about the presence of a substance of very high concern (SVHC) in an ‘article’. This new ruling states that producers must disclose per REACH Article 33 requirements at the level of the ‘simple’ article, rather than at the aggregate level of the ‘complex’ article. The implications of the ruling mean that the obligation of to notify the ECHA of the presence of an SVHC in a concentration above 0.1% by weight of any article will apply to each ‘simple article’ that is used produce a more complex product.
