Farnborough, UK - Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, is pleased to announce that they will be speaking and exhibiting at Vitafoods Europe 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland from May 9-11, 2017.

Vitafoods Europe is an annual event that brings together the global nutraceutical supply chain to showcase their expertise in nutraceutical ingredients and raw materials, dietary supplements, functional food, functional beverages and vitamins. This highly anticipated event attracts 18,500+ of the most senior decision-makers in the global nutraceutical industry. Attendees and stakeholders will be able to meet with leading suppliers of dietary supplements, functional food and beverages and high quality service and equipment providers from across the industry's four key sectors (Ingredients & Raw Materials, Contract Manufacturing & Private Label, Services & Equipment and Branded Finished Products).

There is significant data specifying the importance of providing proper nutrition during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life, as it may impact on long-term health in adulthood and senior years. Due to the lack of clinical research around infants, the data available is limited. As a result, there will be a panel discussion pertaining to infant nutrition titled, “How to Innovate in Infant Nutrition: Bridging the Knowledge Gap”.  This keynote panel discussion will review the information available to date, aim to identify the areas where further research is required, explore the next steps needed to bridge the knowledge gap, and drive innovation forward.  Intertek expert, Mr. Nigel Baldwin, Senior Director, Intertek Europe, Health, Environmental and Regulatory Services (HERS) will be providing a regulatory perspective during this discussion, which is located in the Life Stages Theatre on May 9, 2017, from 2:30 pm – 3:15 pm.

In addition to the panel, Mr. Nigel Baldwin will also be presenting on the topic "Safety Assessment of Ingredients for Infants and Young Children". "The nutritional status of infants and young children is one of the most sensitive and important areas for the functional foods and supplements industry. Along with essential vitamins and minerals and DHA omega-3, a whole new generation of functional ingredients is emerging, including protein isolates, probiotics and human milk oligosaccharides. But not only that, critically, the food and supplement products also contain food additives to keep them stable and make them deliverable in an acceptable format to this age group", states Mr. Nigel Baldwin. "Recently, the Scientific Committee of EFSA launched a Public consultation on the draft EFSA guidance for risk assessment of substances present in foods that are intended for infants under 16 weeks of age. This presentation will review the outcomes and consider the implications for industry and will be taking place on May 9th, 2017, from 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm in the Life Stages Theatre."

Intertek experts will be exhibiting at Stand #G70 and will be available for consultation. To set-up a meeting during the show, please contact food.sci-reg@intertek.com.
