Intertek collaborates with Elekta in the development of pioneering technology in cancer treatment

Intertek, a Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, is working with Elekta, a pioneer in the use of radiotherapy and radiosurgery, on new research technology which combines a linear accelerator and MR imaging, enabling imaging while irradiating, for use in the treatment of cancer.
Intertek has been working with Elekta for more than 15 years on their linear accelerator products, assessed as being compliant with the requirements of rigorous safety standards.
In keeping with Elekta’s aim of stretching the boundaries of science and technology, the much anticipated MR-linac combines two conflicting technologies – one, a linear accelerator with large amounts of metal and the other, an MR magnet, which requires no ferrous materials close by - to develop a real-time treatment scanner. Bringing its years of technological experience and knowledge of the national and international standards and how they apply to these new technologies, Intertek has carried out assessment to help Elektra ensure this equipment meets the requirements of international Safety Standards at stages of development of the MR-linac.
