Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) Compliance

NEBS is the most common set of safety, spatial and environmental design guidelines applied to telecommunications equipment. NEBS requirements cover network telecom equipment that is intended for installation and deployment in the Service Provider’s Central Office. NEBS testing is a required industry standard needed to assure service providers that equipment installed in their central office is compatible with other equipment and will not jeopardize network integrity.

NEBS requirements can vary depending on which service provider you are selling your equipment to and how that equipment connects to the network. Many service providers require additional testing beyond the NEBS requirements called out in GR-63-CORE and GR-1089-CORE.

Intertek is a Verizon Independent Testing Laboratory (ITL) under the NEBS Testing Certification Program (NEBS-TCP). We are approved for testing to multiple requirements, including GR-3108, GR-63, and GR-1089. We can help guide you to specific requirements for your product and industry.

Intertek’s proprietary NEBS certification mark indicates recognized compliance to North American standards for the Telecom industry. When you display the Intertek NEBS mark on your product, you are showing that it is in compliance with the applicable NEBS testing criteria for NEBS standards GR-63-CORE and GR-1089-CORE.

Step One: Notify your Intertek representative that you need NEBS Certification
Step Two: Determine the applicable NEBS and Service Provider specific requirements your product must meet
Step Three: When your product is found compliant, you’ll be issued a NEBS certificate and report; your product will bear Intertek’s NEBS Certified Mark; proof to buyers that your product has met all applicable requirements
