Japan – JSA Publishes New Care Labeling Standards
Vol. 808 | January 08, 2015
The Japanese Standards Association (JSA) recently published new care labeling standards in order to harmonize the ISO International care labeling system. These standards are expected to be harmonized under the Households Goods Quality Labeling Regulation upon official acceptance by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA), to replace the current mandatory care labeling standard JIS L 0217 “ Care Labeling of Textile Goods”. While awaiting approval by METI and CAA, the current mandatory standard JIS L 0217 is still being used according to the regulation. These standards are now available at JSA 1.

- JIS L 1930 : 2014 Textiles – Domestic Washing and drying procedures for textile testing
- JIS L 1931-1 : 2014 Textiles – Professional care, dry cleaning and wet cleaning of fabrics and garments – part 1: Assessment of performance after cleaning and finishing
- JIS L 1931-2 : 2014 Textiles – Professional care, dry cleaning and wet cleaning of fabrics and garments – part 2 : Procedure for testing performance when cleaning and finishing using tetrachloroethene
