Exporting/Importing Cosmetic and Food Products to Saudi Arabia – New SFDA Guideline on the requirements for designation of Conformity Assessment Bodies

SFDA has recently published a Guideline on the requirements for the designation of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) certifying Cosmetic and Food Products to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).  The new SFDA Guideline sets forth a comprehensive framework of procedures required to be put in place by CABs to perform Inspection and Certification activities related to the certification of Food and Cosmetic products and/or their Manufacturing facilities.

Quite a few changes have been introduced in the new SFDA Guideline. Some of the major changes (but not limited to) are listed below:

Product Certification:

  • Introducing a new type of Certificate, i.e. Product Certificate of Conformity which can be availed by Clients through CABs voluntarily. The validity of this Certificate varies from 1 year to 3 years based on the product type.

Shipment Certification:

  • Mandatory Inspection, sampling for testing, and sealing of consignments
  • Changes in the requirements of test parameters
  • Validity of test reports for cosmetic products is based on the risk criteria defined by SFDA
